About the artist:
Life experience, a connection to nature and her law background inform Ruth Tyszka’s artwork. Her current work uses mixed materials organized to reflect a desire for balance and resolution in both the intimate spaces of life and the world at large. Her decade-long series of mosaic teapots challenges her to express herself uniquely on the same distinctive yet repeated teapot shapes. Tyszka was a musician for ten years before pursuing a law degree and she has studied photography, stained glass, mosaic, and design. Her artwork has appeared in the highly competitive Mosaic Arts International juried exhibition and was awarded in the 2012 Michigan Fine Arts Competition. Her artwork appears in multiple publications including in and on the cover of Schiffer Publishing’s Mosaic Art Today. Tyszka is a graduate of the Musicians Institute (Guitar Institute of Technology), Oakland University, and Wayne State University Law School. She is the past Governance Chair of the Society Of American Mosaic Artists, and a member of the Detroit Artists Market, Mosaic Artists of Michigan and Friends of Polish Art. Recently she has been curating group exhibitions of her work with that of others, including the current “STEEP” show at the Janice Charach Gallery in West Bloomfield, Michigan.
