Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau conducts a census to determine the number of people living in the United States.
In the fall of 2019, Matrix was partnering with the City of Detroit Government and The Community Foundation to ensure that Detroit would #becounted in the 2020 Census. Please visit our official Matrix Census Website for detailed information.
Why is it important that Detroit gets counted in the Census?
-
For each Detroiter who is counted in the census, the city government will receive approximately $4,000 per person, every year for the next ten years, to help fund vital programs like Matrix Human Services
-
In the 2010 Census, Detroit was considered one of the most undercounted cities in the nation, and lost out on millions of dollars of federal funding
-
Census responses help fund public services and communities including libraries, schools, police, fire, etc., and are even used to draw district lines and other government functions
-
Without government funding, Matrix would not be able to provide any of our community well-being programs like Matrix Human Services Head Start, Food Pantry Tuesday’s at the Matrix Center, HIV screenings, Adult programs like the Matrix High School Diploma Program, Matrix Manufacturing Boot Camp, and more.
